On Demand Printing - Destination Marketing

Philip Wolf, CEO of Phocuswright, called it the perfect storm when search, shopping and buying merge! While he talked about the Internet, the fact is that travel shopping includes publishing, advertising and marketing in all media. The On line and off-line conversation is merging. Today we can publish and print high resolution magazines in a fraction of the time and cost of traditional printing. On Demand print is immediate, no hassle, no inventory and no print run investments delivering high quality personal messages complementing the online experience. AXSES Tourism and Destination Marketing magazine is about this merging tourism technology; the Next Generation Tourism Platform: Get your print copy of this issue for just a few dollar or download a FREE PDF at

This issue deals with direct sales versus distribution and its effect on brand integrity (get your copy >>> ). AXSES blogs have dealt with this before but the topic has heated up in a market where ever sales and marketing avenue matters.

At the beginning of the Financial crisis Priceline sales increased and Expedia revenue declined. Travelers were seeking deals and Priceline was top of mind. Subsequently Expedia responded with aggressive negotiations and best rate guarantees. They now are the dominant player in that space. Hotels are keen to get listed with Expedia and some Destination Marketing Portals have integrated or are thinking of Integrating Expedia bookings with their site. Some high profile partners have dropped out and the press is alive with conversations on direct vs. indirect marketing.

All the forecasts to this point have shown a steady growth in Direct Vs Distribution sales. But with Best Rates Guarantee in Distribution and Direct sales coming at a premium rate, these might well be reversed. The changes will determine who controls the product and the brand.

We offer some insights and a useful analysis of what is the brand - see Travel Shopping Next Generation (Magazine)
